Leo proudly bears the symbol of the lion, something that didn't happen by accident. It's an association brought about by this sign's reputation for being brave, strong and fearless. Since the lion is the king of the jungle, he also endows his signature sign with the qualities of a natural ruler. Leos can pull the mantle of authority over their shoulders at a moment's notice and start barking out orders -- benevolently, of course -- just as quickly. To pull it all off, certain qualities are a must: charisma, to start with, along with the ability to enchant and enthrall the masses. Like those of many popular leaders, Leos's followers often seem to simply fall in love with them!

Bringing all those qualities into a relationship means several things. First off, the Lion's partner can't help but feel honored and, at times, a bit overwhelmed by the task of measuring up. If you're a Leo yourself, you'll of course do your best to let your chosen partner know that nothing is too good for them. You'll put everything you have into showing that lucky soul they not only deserve you, but are also worthy of anything; the best of everything is all that will do. Luckily for the rest of us, Leos automatically endow their loved ones with a sense of worth that not too many others can match. They also carry themselves with regal demeanor, so whomever happens to be on their arm can't help but also feel royal.

There's a humble side to Leo, however -- again, only when it comes to the ones the Lion loves. This kingly sign will go out of its way to make anything happen for cherished friends and family, whenever it's humanly possible. But don't fear, Leos: While it's not your ultimate goal, this unparalleled devotion ensures that you'll receive the same in return, with just as much emotional extravagance.

Speaking of extravagance, Leos are famous for that as well! Not only that, but Leos are also known to be lavish, theatrical and, at times, a tad on the melodramatic side (even in the company of those they've just met!). Keeping the latter qualities in check is their greatest challenge, and what keeps them honest and reputable. So, to all you Lions out there, find a way to strut your stuff on a stage that deserves your presence -- and in a way that preserves your dignity -- and you'll do the other residents of your jungle proud!

August's Planetary Forecast

There is a volatile energy in the atmosphere this month, complicated by a Mercury retrograde cycle that traditionally introduces an element of confusion. Sometimes, though, confusion can be a good thing: it prompts us to pull back and to look within for a better perspective that give us peace of mind.

The month starts out on a note of upheaval with Mars in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn (in effect from the 2nd to the 20th, exact on the 11th). We all be feeling an inner agitation, torn between our personal emotional needs and external realities. Avoid power struggles at this time, especially at work.

If you feel, for example, that someone is using power in an inappropriate way, your best bet is to stay aloof and not willingly play the role of the opponent upon whom they can act out their frustration. On the other hand, it is possible that you will be the one who is inadvertently provoking others, which then causes them to feel that they have to assert themselves in order to maintain or regain their position. In either case, pulling back and letting the energy settle down is the best tactic.

Mars is quite active this month, as it also triggers Uranus in Aries (from the 2nd to the 20th, exact on the 9th). During these days, you will likely feel an internal pressure to change your life in some way. There is an urge for more satisfaction and security. This is a great time, then, to become aware of new ways to express yourself or new styles of leadership that you can adopt. Impatience may arise, however, both on your part and on the part of others. The caution here is to avoid careless or reckless behavior.

Simultaneously, Mars in Cancer harmoniously trines Neptune in Pisces (in effect from the 2nd to the 11th, exact on the 3rd). During these days, you may be drawn to meditation, prayer, or spiritual pursuits. You can use the energy of this aspect to your advantage and make progress in these areas.

August 2: Mercury turns retrograde
As communication planet Mercury turns retrograde in analytical Virgo, it's time to go over your plans in detail. You have plenty of good ideas, and with a little more thought, they'll go from good to great! Don't rush anything -- or even tell other people what you're thinking. When Mercury slips back into Leo on August 8, your creativity will be thrust into the spotlight, so you'll want to return to previous projects and contacts for inspiration. And when Mercury turns direct on August 26, you'll get the green light to present your fabulous ideas to the world!

August 3: Mars enters Cancer and trines Neptune
As warrior Mars put its energy into protective, sensitive Cancer, your actions are very much influenced by your desire for safety and security, as well as your emotions. Pay attention to your feelings, instincts, and hunches as you move forward with your plans. Don't act on anything that doesn't feel right ... but also watch for oversensitivity and any tendency to overreact.

August 4: Neptune re-enters Aquarius
Last April 4, Neptune began a 14-year stay in Pisces -- with the exception of this return to group-oriented Aquarius, which will last for the rest of 2011. (Neptune turned retrograde on June 3.) You'll build an unshakable foundation for 2012 if, right now, you pay attention to how you invest in your hopes and dreams.

August 8: Mercury enters Leo and opposes Neptune
Both Mercury and Neptune are retrograde when they join in this dreamy, creative conjunction. Imagination is your friend with this duo, but the trick is to make sure you see everything as clearly as possible! The truth is a bit slippery, and trying to figure out what is real -- and what isn't -- may be exhausting. If you can, use this day to do something that inspires you.

August 9: Mars squares Uranus
August 10: Mars opposes Pluto
While traveling through protective Cancer, feisty Mars connects with the revolutionary Uranus-Pluto square that, while not exact, is still very potent. There are few combinations that are as headstrong, rebellious and potentially explosive as when Mars, Uranus and Pluto connect! One thing is for sure: You won't want anyone telling you what to do, although you're sure to be challenged now!

August 13: Full Moon in Aquarius
An Aquarius Moon activates our desire to be part of something bigger, whether it's your local community or getting involved in a global initiative. Whenever the Moon is full in group-oriented Aquarius, the Sun is concurrently in Leo, the sign of leadership. Your main task during this emotionally heightened time is to maintain a balance between your own needs and desires, and those of others.

August 16: Sun/Venus/Mercury conjunction
The Leader (Sun), the Lover (Venus) and the Messenger (Mercury) come together in bold, creative and dramatic Leo, and this triple conjunction brings plenty of interesting -- and fun -- conversations. You're in planning mode now, and if you can remember to brainstorm without necessarily committing to anything (since Mercury is still retrograde), you'll lay a foundation for exciting events to come! Reach out to people from your past for extra support and ideas.

August 18: Mars sextiles Jupiter
When action-oriented Mars entered nurturing Cancer on August 3, you began exploring steps to enhance your security and emotional well-being. This week, Mars connects with Jupiter (currently transiting through Taurus, a sign very interested in finances and stability), and this combination offers you the energy to take your projects and plans as far as you want to take them.

August 21: Venus enters Virgo
The love planet Venus in such a practical sign brings welcome relief to all the drama going on these days! Sometimes the most simple, thoughtful acts can open your heart in a way that all the dramatic gestures in the world cannot. This is an ideal transit during which you can tangibly improve your relationships, so ask yourself some questions.

Enjoy the Sun's transit through Leo!
