For the month of January, Saturn and Neptune will remain in harmony. Along with Jupiter in Taurus recently out of retrograde, and Mars continuing in Virgo, we should find the forward march in these first few weeks of the New Year to continue pretty much as expected. The second and third weeks of the month are the most productive and generating. Apply yourself, don’t let yourself miss out.

The Cancer full moon on January 8 can raise emotional tides and vulnerabilities. It can bring up the past in some significant way. Issues of job or financial security, personal safety, domestic issues, and family matters can need tending. Mercury’s alignments with Jupiter and Uranus at the time of the full moon are informing and enlightening. They suggest the ability to articulate needs, to set plans in motion, and to find workable or creative solutions.

Mars in Virgo stations retrograde, Jan 23 to April 13. The transit began mid November and will complete by July 3. Mars is usually a quick transit, averaging 6 – 8 weeks through a sign. Due to its retrograde cycle, Jan 23 to April 4, Mars will spend almost 8 months on its current target practice. Mars will keep each of us hard at work on our own fix-it programs. With great precision, Mars in Virgo will target the weak, vulnerable, or damaged. The transit serves to uncover what’s lacking, what’s wrong, what isn’t working, what’s flawed. In so doing, we’ll get to the core of what needs to be corrected, fixed, and healed.

When Mars tours Virgo, the common complaint from the receiving end is often one of “too little, too late”. This or other growing dissatisfactions will set the groundwork for the Mars retrograde, pull-back-and-shift-target cycle. From the end of January through the beginning of April, Mars retrograde serves to invert the attention and to refortify the ambition. Rather than focus on the external objectives, we turn the primarily attention back to self and to personal reconciliation. By creating an added degree of separation or disengagement, Mars retrograde allows for more objectivity and perspective. Mars in retrograde is an internal “heating” influence; a specific momentum builds more steam. Through the middle of January, Mars is well aligned (in trine) with the sun. Pay close attention to events and impressions. What you undertake or become conscious of during this time can be useful and productive. It paves a pathway to improvement and healing.
